The donuts made of blue aragonite are not dyed; the raw material comes from Argentina.
Blue aragonite is also known as oceanite in both the retail and wholesale trade.
The mineral aragonite was first described in 1796 by the German mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner and named after the Localities in the province of Aragon in north-eastern Spain; the spelling arragonite is therefore incorrect.
Blue aragonite is very closely related to blue calcite; the two minerals differ in terms of Cleavability, crystal structure and solubility.
