Dumortierite is also known as a take-it-easy stone because the mineral's themes are detachment and the ease of life.
Dumortierite was first found in 1881 in a quarry in the French department of Rhône; the first scientific description was taken by the mineralogist M.F. Gonnard. He named the newly discovered mineral in honor of the French paleontologist Eugène Dumortier (1801 - 1876). Occasional spellings such as Dumorterite, Dumortiriete, Dumortirite or Dumoterite are therefore incorrect.
